The
Story Paper Collector
Bill Gander was born in Croydon in 1898 and moved to Canada with his parents as a thirteen year old. In the twenties Bill bought a tabletop press which he used for sending out lists to other collectors of story papers he was needing for his collection. In 1941 he started publishing a small magazine containing stories about the story papers and their authors which he sent free to other collectors.
This magazine, the Story Paper Collector was the fore runner of the Collectors Digest and was incorporated into the CD when Bill Gander died in 1966. Bill was plagued by ill health for many years and had decided that issue 100 would be the last but unfortunately he passed away suddenly after the publication of issue 95. Four volumes of the Story Paper Collectors were produced. The plan was for each volume to contain 25 issues but due to Bill's death in 1966 the final volume was limited to 20 issues. You can read volume four in its entirety here or you can download individual issues from the table below.
